Portrait of Omeed

Portrait of Omeed is a docu-narrative short film starring Los Angeles born young Iranian musician Omeed Almassi. The film, created by Ariana Mamnoon, an emerging Iranian-American musician and artist, displays a 7 minute vignette of Omeed, a classically trained cellist and a punk rocker, while also paying homage to his Iranian roots. The film works to document the duality that exists within Omeed, and within other young Iranian-Americans. Mamnoon creates a world that highlights the beauty of Iranian culture, but also the talent that exists in Iranian-American youth. The film was created by a full Iranian-American crew, and was shot in Los Angeles. It premiered on The Fader Magazine with a featured and interview, and was selected into several short film festivals. This work follows Mamnoon’s last video, “Girls playing Soccer,” which documented 7 Iranian girls shooting a soccer ball on loop.
