The short film “Mirage” revolves around a couple who, unable to conceive, decide to secretly buy a baby from a poor family to avoid their family’s disapproval. They are initially overjoyed to find out from a sonogram that the baby is a boy. However, the mother selling the baby has a change of heart. The broker then offers a different baby, whose father is on death row, at a lower price. The couple assumes this baby is a boy due to its blue clothes, only to learn that the blue clothes were donated by a charitable woman, and the baby is actually a girl. Disheartened, they reconsider. The story highlights the lingering influence of patriarchy and the preference for male children in society.
