“FILKOOL” is a 2D animated short film inspired by the simple but profound drawings of MAZDAK, a boy with Down syndrome, (MARAL’s Brother, director). MAZDAK’s drawings are digitally enhanced and layered to create a unique visual style. All dialogue and voices of the characters are performed by children with Down syndrome, which brings the film closer to authenticity. The story is about a different and unique creature called FILKOOL, a kind creature who does not fit into his home, people hurt him and make him sad in order to change him – until a young boy with Down syndrome arrives, sees FILKOOL for who he really is. He tells people that there is no need to change FILKOOL and with a simple solution, puts FILKOOL in his home. Through poetic imagery and authentic sounds, the film celebrates diversity, empathy, and the power of inclusion, aiming to amplify underheard voices in animation and inspire viewers to see the beauty in difference.
